Laguna Beach and its surrounding coastal areas are part of what is called the Mediterranean biome, characterized by mild winters, hot dry summers, and moisture-laden oceanic breezes. This particular biome, or biological community, is quite rare: it occurs in only five places on the planet.
In this large-format, heavy-stock coloring book, author and illustrator Jo Situ Allen features over forty of the region's most iconic plants and animals. These include the majestic California Grizzly Bear (now extinct), the Coastal California Gnatcatcher (super cute and endangered) and the Laguna Liveforever (a rare and endangered plant endemic to this area). The Accidental Naturalist includes a glossary, and its notebook binding allows pages to be removed for framing.
