Thinking of my Po Po (Cantonese for maternal grandmother) as I process the increase in anti-Asian hate crimes since last year. Whenever my heart is filled with complex emotions, I always turn to pen and paper ... this is what came to me as I reflected on the wiser, older people in my life.
I am grateful to Gim Fong (former owner of Fong's in Chinatown, LA, Margie Lew (my oldest best friend who I met at the Chinatown library in third grade - she is now 99) and my Po Po (who passed 2 years ago) for bringing their light, love and incredible spirit into our lives.
